Classroom Policies: The first rule in the classroom is respect for everyone. This involves many different aspects from respect for the teacher to respect for every student. Do not speak out of turn, be in control of yourself. Second rule is do your job. That means bring all materials to class, listen and participate in the lesson and finish assignments correctly.
Objectives: There are two objectives for this course. The first objective is for students to understand geometric topics including area and volume. We will cover chapters 11 and 12 in the Geometry book. The second objective is for students to understand algebraic topics including equations, matrices, quadratics and polynomials. We will cover chapters 1-6 in the Algebra 2 book.
Materials Needed: Students will be required to have a three ring binder. Inside that binder, there should be one spiral notebook for classroom notes and loose-leaf paper for assignments. This method will help organization. Students are required to have a pencil. I have heard every excuse under the sun as to why pens are better but the fact remains that students who use a pencil, have neater notes and assignments. Students are required to have a graphing calculator. I recommend the TI-84. Bring all materials including the Geometry or Algebra 2 book to class everyday.
Absent: There are many valid reasons as to why students are not in class but they are still gone. If YOU are gone, YOU are responsible for YOUR assignment or other work that was done that day. Don’t expect the class to stop and wait for you to catch up.
½ for ½: It has been shown that students who study for one half hour nightly have and average GPA one half point higher.
Cell Phones: Cell phones are not allowed in the classroom. Use of phone (including texting) in class will result in the phone being taken to the office.
Electronic Devices: Electronic devices can only be used to listen to music during homework time.
